Secondary Food

Secondary food is what modern nutrition considers carbs, proteins or fresh produce. We use secondary food as a way to alleviate or suppress biological hunger. While secondary food is a form of nourishment, it does not account for the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual nourishment that we receive from primary food.

Primary food is more than what you find on your plate.  Healthy relationships, regular physical activity, a fulfilling career and a spirtual practice can fill your soul and satisfy your hunger for life. When primary food is balanced and satiated, your life feeds you, making what you eat secondary.

In striving to eat the best secondary food and reduce cravings, Integrative Nutrition teaches the theory of "crowding out." Learn more about our "crowding out" theory.
